6 things to do in Cabo during the surface intervals

When people ask us what to do when they come to Cabo, we, of course, tell them to get in the water! With the variety of sea life that we have available on our doorstep, there's always something different for you to spot, swim or play with no matter what time of the year you visit us.

But if, for whatever reason, you wish to have a dry day, here are some of our favorite activities that you can do.

  1. Check out a deserted beach on the Pacific

The pacific coast of Baja has some of the most incredible and long beaches, some expanding over a few kilometers. The best thing? they are so large that you won’t have to worry about crowds. Actually, they’re pretty empty huge beaches that expand over kilometers and usually pretty empty so it’s the perfect place to relax and contemplate life while enjoying the powerful ocean waves crash. They also happen to be the best spots to watch the sunset!

2. Take a hike

We think that the best ocean view is from inside the water. But the second-best is from the top of the hills looking down on the crystal blue ocean! You can get some height from Cerro de la Z to have a 360º view of both the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez.

We highly recommend the Santiago waterfalls. The freshwater springs create a spectacular oasis with stunning waterfalls and unique flora. Another personal favorite is Pescadero, where you can hike over the cliffs to a large sea lion colony and spectacular bays. From December to April it’s the perfect place to whale watch from a different perspective.

3. Go bird watching at the San José Estuary

A thirty-minute ride will get you to this beautiful and unique estuary. The estuary is a freshwater lagoon but due to its proximity to the Sea of Cortez, it has developed into a complex ecosystem and a vital part of the region, playing a very important role for both land and water ecosystems.

We definitely recommend visiting early in the morning where you can spot the juvenile ospreys and pelicans learning to fish.

4. Surf the east cape

The best time to surf the Sea of Cortez is during the summer. The water is crystal-clear and the microclimate creates a perfect surfing experience. June-August are the ideal months as offshore tropical storms produce perfect swells.

Not visiting in the summer? No worries, there’s plenty of surf beaches around the peninsula!

5. Visit the donkey sanctuary

Rancho Carisuva has a rescue project to protect the endangered Baja Burro. Located just thirty-minutes from Cabo San Lucas (towards the west), it offers not only some furry interactions with these cuties, but also horseback riding through ocean side cliffs, lush desert ranges, private untouched beaches and canyon trails in a Pacific Beach.

6. Treat yourself

If you want to treat yourself to a luxurious getaway LuxMex has everything you need. As well as a fine selection of luxury villas to suit all tastes, they offer full Concierge Services, yacht rental, or even a private jet to make your holiday unforgettable.

There are plenty of things for you to do in Cabo. But don't forget, most of the magic is underwater, so make sure you leave enough time in your holiday for a wildlife expedition. Or two- because once you try it, we know once won't be enough!
