May 1st marked the beginning of the veda or fishing ban on sharks and rays in the waters of Baja California Sur. It is common throughout the year to hear the word thrown around at restaurants or seen on government communications, so we thought we’d go deeper and tell you about this practice, what it is, what it means and most importantly: do they work?

We had the pleasure of hosting the Women in Science and Pelagic Shark Retreat this year and it was EPIC! We had orcas, makos, blue sharks, humpbacks and even a whale shark come and surprise us on this six day adventure. Every day was filled with adrenaline, laughter and precious memories. When people ask us what to do when they come to Cabo, we, of course, tell them to get in the water! With the variety of sea life that we have available on our doorstep, there's always something different for you to spot, swim or play with no matter what time of the year you visit us. But if, for whatever reason, you wish to have a dry day, here are some of our favorite activities that you can do.

The months of February and March form together to bring one of the most diversely abundant seasons in Baja of the whole year, and the Latitude team aims to take full advantage by pursuing incredible whale encounters up and down the peninsula.  Although within Mexico it is not permitted to enter the water with any baleen whales, we can still have incredible encounters from deftly maneuvered boats in the hands of our captains and the keen eyes of our experienced whale guides.
